I tried some extended world-building for my P&P campaign but stopped doing it quite soon again.
It's often very very useless trivia that can be pulled out of your ass at the spot just as well. And once I as a GM had something prepared I always had the latent feeling that I need to show it too. With too many named mountains and cities and companies/factions whatever things become like a tourist tour no one gives a shit about.
I can only imagine it being the same for creative writing.

As for the program I really don't know since I haven't tried. I use something like a crazy person wall where I stick handwritten notes and scribbles.
It doesn't seem like it gives any real benefit if you only do it for yourself. The possibility for a good representation of your world is really neat, but that only comes into play when you do it for others who need flashy pictures and a cool design.
Because from what I can see, a text document with hyperlinks does a similar job.

What are your experiences with it? It seems like you used the free version already.
