I’m already a writer. I’m wondering when I will truly become an author, when the mundane distractions, discouragements, derisions, and lack of personal discipline will fade and I embrace my work with applied fervor, becoming the genius artist I’m meant to be.

Idk, man. Seems more like you’re being too narrow-minded to appreciate something good. BB took some of the most interesting aspects of both genres and made it into something new. The game is popular for a reason, and I don’t exactly hear about any other burgeoning authors, artists, or directors accomplishing what Miyazaki and his team did. The ones that do, quite literally plagiarize bloodborne or ape older stories without creating anything of their own.

Of course, I’d love to be pleasantly disproven with some recommendations.

When was this? A lot can be said about the corruption of the current traditional publishing industry, and people tend to make a case for self publishing as a result. Do you believe that your experience is still possible for burgeoning writers - even if they’re not inclined to write according to the zeitgeist?
