Came across this some time ago. Not sure that this or anything else can be a definitive guide to the book, but it's something.

Do you think there is a relation between the complexity of the plot and how good it its?; what about the complexity of the prose and the quality of the book itself?.

If not, why some writers choose a complex argument or prose? -talking about good books, not the ones which are written with obscure prose to seem deep-.

Tried to do my best Irish accent

Also I couldn't decide how to pronounce some words, like "gorgios" (like gorgeous or bourgeoisie), so apologies.

Just started reading Finnegan's Wake.

Irishfag here, I'm surprised by how much of this is written based on how Irish people (or more specifically Dubliners) speak [which is not the way americans seem to think we speak in movies], and how many Irish-specific references there are.

It's logical given that Joyce was Irish, but I figured since it's so popular internationally it wouldn't be too Irish-specific.

There must be a fair chunk of the book going completely over non-irish people's heads, it's weird.

This. You really won't like it unless you have a pretty broad understanding of Western literary tradition.

Also, for what it's worth, I think Finnegans Wake is way more enjoyable. It too requires preparation in the same way as Ulysses, but it's vastly more rewarding.

I'm pretty sure Finnegan's wake is a song bro.

Through my deductive reasoning though, I figured you meant the book by James Joyce. Is this the 'map' you were talking about?

I'm going to buy Finnegans Wake. Are there any editions you would recommend for or against? Also, what guide(s) are most useful? This is for personal reading, and possible eventual academic use.

I've read and studied Joyce's other works already, and a bit of FW online, so I know what I'm getting into.
