Scholarly works become fetishized when supply goes down, so the price goes through the roof because university libraries are basically blank checkbooks that need to keep up with collections in other libraries. What I propose is that we artificially cause the prices of certain books to skyrocket by group-buying a book at its lower price to lower supply, and then gauging libraries with the new higher price. This would be an easy way to allow all of us to turn a huge profit to buy other books. If you don’t have experience in the scholarly book-buying market, don’t shit on the idea. Books jump from $20 to $150 just because demand isn’t high enough to justify another printing, and libraries won’t get rid of their copies (and they aren’t regularly in the hands of consumers). I phrase things douchily and use stupid words. I’m sorry for that.
