Just read Philoktetes by Sophocles, and it was beautiful. I got teary when Philoktetes said his goodbyes to the island.

I am currently reading it. It was incredibly hard for me. The characters stop in the middle of war and talk in length about irrelevant shit that last for pages. There is an entire chapter listing every single Greek king and how many soldiers he brought to the war. These stuff seemed boring to me at first and I wanted to skip the book and go for the Odyssey.
But the more I read about the Iliad and the Trojan war, the more I realized how significant it is. Also I learned to appreciate all those speeches because it was the way of ancient Greek poets to give significance to a character, or maybe even a method to preserve history. The action that happens is described in a gruel manner, and the gods fighting each other is fun to imagine.
If you don't mind, get an audiobook. Youtube has an abridged one, and thepiratebay has several full versions which should be around 12 hours. An hour a day and you finish it in a week.

I started with the Greeks. Am I allowed to skip the Illiad sttraight to the Odyssey? It is boring as fuck to hear hour long speeches in the middle of a fucking battlefield. That one time the narrator counted all the fucking troops and their origins was big fun too.
