It's more of a series of biblical parallels than world building, which is why all other fantasy novels that focus on world building are shit.

Subcultures are rife with dunning-kruger elitists and dysfunctional hierarchies and should be condemned for this but this is mostly in the later stages, after the initial burst of energy has dissipated and the creative period gives way to one marked by curation. The tragedy is really about the death of scenes and more broadly unmediated socialisation in general. Sub-cultures were useful incubators for moments of, all too brief, organic culture creation. New culture requires a gentle gestation period where it can test itself and form, but this no longer exists as most culture is now generated online using platforms that exist mostly for corporations to harvest data. You never get that moment when it is just a couple of people in the early days tying to hammer out something new, even the most nebulous trends are anticipated and pre-packaged based on crunching out data from social media. It is why you have these almost schizophrenic aesthetics with no ethos underlying them. And don't get me wrong, the plug-and-play identities offered by sub-cultures are shallow and meaningless, but the alternative is obviously not a new era of authenticity but complete interchangeability of all culture below only the most superficial layer of aesthetic division.

Is it possible to learn about people by reading? Such as how another gender, race or whatever is thinking? Or is it just a source of entertejnment and nothing more?

I'm curious. Were the shut-ins of the past who created great literary works actually shut-ins by today's standards, or were they just antisocial in a time when even so-called shut-ins were compelled to engage in plenty of human contact in order to survive?

Hello /lit/, I don't come to this board often but it is generally one of the more intelligent boards so I wanted your advice. I am 21 years old and diagnosed with ADHD, which I was prescribed adderall for which worked wonderfully and helped me gain an appreciation and love for literature. I read voraciously for the four months I was on the medication, relishing in how I was now able to follow sentences and paragraphs completely, and understand complicated texts and abstract literary/philosophical concepts. It was amazing.

This all came crashing down when I suffered a near-heart attack one night, and discovered I suffer from heart valve disease, and as a consequence can no longer take my medication or even caffeine. Upon leaving the hospital, I am right back to my previous brainlet self. I struggle to finish paragraphs, I have to read and re-read sentences to understand them, and even then I often miss the intended meaning, and I can no longer follow complicated themes or ideas. I struggle to focus, and my attention goes everywhere, and try as I might I just can't make brain work as well as it did while on adderall.

What is your best advice for overcoming this /lit/? Can I improve my focus and speed of cognition on my own? How do I gain the same fluidity of thought that I had on adderall? Not only was I good at reading, but I was good at communication as well, and my writing was excellent well on it; you can probably tell how poor my writing is now, there are many sentences that I could remove/improve but I just lack the intelligence to do it.

I want to be smart, smart like I was on the medication. How do I do this? Is it possible?

Thanks for your help /lit/.
