You need to have everything ironed out before you start. You need to have a decisive roadmap so you know where your going and how you’re going to get there. Believe me, I hear too many people at conventions and writers groups who talk about how they “don’t know how to end it”. It’s a finish line not a treasure hunt. Add all the dragons and androids you like but that stuff is just window dressing
