I'd recommend looking up the great adventure timeline. If you want to understand it in full, I'd say read follow the Bible in a year Fr Mike Schmitz has. If not, if you'd rather understand the narrative, I'd read the fourteen books that they recommend for that

Also I'm not sure what version you're reading but it's important to state that this is from a Catholic Bible, so some books might be compiled differently or removed in other versions, like Maccabees. Although if you may or may not agree with some of the changes I'd definitely consider reading it in this way, as you get the full story. Maccabees is a good bridge into the New Testament.
