Do you sometimes feel that the act of sex is awful? I know that as an angsty teenager, I would constantly tell myself “If only I could have sex with a girl, I would be happy.” Of course it is always that which is withheld from us that is most enticing, but after having multiple relationships, my opinion has changed very much. We desire it as the be-all end-all of a romantic relationship; it is the most intimate that two lovers can get. Most of the time, when my gf and I are having sex, I just cannot divorce myself from the very primitive and base nature of the act. I am only fulfilling my biological imperative. Stick it in, stick it in, stick it in, get it sucked, stick it in, blow your load. I want more, but there is nothing; there is only this. Chimps do it, I do it. Fucking nihilism ruining my sex life.

I think deconstructionism in so much a paradigm of modern literary thought that a /lit/ board is inherently opposed to any moderation other than is legally necessary. Even spam and juvenile stupidity is just part of the interpretational landscape.

my history prof likes to discredit and mock literary criticism, and i find a lot of lit people as well as others find criticism and theory irrelevant.

which theories should/can be applied to a text? are any applicable all the time, or just some of the time? how can we enliven a more popular criticism in american society?
