The simplest categorization is to refer to him as an Art Historian. Art history sits on the border between history and an interpretive art in and of itself. Terence became a master of this inbetween space between Art and History, and that's how he was able to come up with so many prescient concepts and insights. IMO, his stoned ape, and novelty theories will be vindicated, and either form the basis of a new scientific school, or an occult spiritual rite that will likely stay underground, but have a certain kind of popular attraction.

I personally think that a lot of what he said about "The End of History" is more prescient than people realize. We are coming to a moment of total singularity of consciousness on our planet where we will inevitably be forced into adopting a unified paradigm, or killing ourselves. The consequences of this are hard to fathom but I think that there is a time not too far away where there is going to be absolute consensus about history and Religion, and I think Terence's Stoned Ape and Novelty Theories are going to play a massive role in this. There may be hold-over subversive elements that try to thwart this reckoning, but I think that if a holistic universal theory could somehow "go viral" on the internet, and people just started adopting a new singular paradigm, it will be impossible to resist.

To answer how this effects the genome. We see examples of birth deformities in farm animals after they eat certain shrubs or plants. My guess is that Mushrooms cause a genetic "deformity" of the brain and cranial capacity, it just so happens that this deformity has certain cognitive advantages. That isn't to say that human beings have not struggled with acquiring this higher consciousness, my view is that earl religion and all forms of superstition are a record of that struggle to acquire an intellectual consensus about what reality is. I think Terence's "Transcendental Object at the End of Time" can be likened to a moment when the planet comes to a collective consensus on the nature of reality, and perhaps embodies these ideas into a machine intelligence.

In short I think you're right, Terence was a bonafide genius. His theory for human evolution is correct, that's why all the world religions once used these mushrooms.
