Here's something that I've been wondering. Is DFW's article about the cruise ship gonzo journalism?

Infinite Jest might serve as a depressing wake-up call, especially if addiction is one of the things that is bugging you. Truth is, if "completely transforming your life mentally and physically" is your goal, then you should ask yourself what type of person you want to become and maybe that way you can get some useful recommendations. Also, get some exercise as the other anon mentions

>I think that's wrong. But what do you think?
I haven't read it yet, so I can't say anything specific about him or his book. I'll check it out
Personally I think that, in general, self-help books fall somewhere between non-fiction essays and textbooks, like, they try to convey some lessons as a textbook does through the medium of essay-style prose, if that makes any sense

>A book that's read by people who dislike reading can't be good literature, right?
Of course it can still be well written, I like Peterson's style of writing for example, but I believe that a lot of people who dislike reading but still gravitate towards these types of books do so not for the sake of reading but because they hope to learn something from a specific book or author
