I was impressed with Blindopraxia but I'm wrapping up the Rifters trilogy right now and its amazing.

Its about sex offenders/offendees (they best fit the profile for the work) augmented to work for power companies harnessing geothermal from ocean vents, but is eventually about something else entirely. Watts really flexes his biology knowledge on this one (guy has like a phd in harbor seals, no really). Like Blindo, its hard sci-fi but having more to do with neurology than math or physics.
