I'm starting to think I should've minored in French and then pursued a degree in French literature instead of going the Applied Math route. I'm about to graduate with an MMS and am applying for PhDs. I don't know if I can do this soul-draining research. It would be much more interesting and worthwhile to me and the world to research French language literature. Who the fuck cares if you find out using this specific and numerical method gives you better stability? It literally has no real world impact, other than upping your publish count. But with literature at least I might help someone on their journey into art.

Daily reminder your average person doesn't read books.
>steam friend goes to same college as me
>I've given up gaming completely
>but occasionally we'll see each other on campus in line at Chik-Fil-A or Panda Express and eat together
>I'm an autistic socially retarded shit so I can't converse well
>He asks me what I've been doing in my free time
>say I've been mostly reading
>"Ah, I don't read at all. But I've wanted to get into it. What books do you read?"
>ummm I've recently been reading Nabokov and McCarthy
>"Never heard of them."
>oh
>I go on to explain how I recently spent over a hundred dollars on books and still wanted to buy more, but had to stop myself because I would run up a $300 dollar tab
>talk to him about my class on American Crime fiction

Also
>Christmas
>Mom bought me books for Christmas
>Grandma or Dad says "What books did you get?"
>Mom interjects saying, "I don't really know. But he reads REAL LITERATURE. Not anything I'd read. He reads that important heady stuff."
>Mom keeps telling me I should be a Literature professor just because I read all these books
>try to explain to her that to be a Literature professor takes more than reading books
>try to also explain to her that I'm about to graduate as a math major and in order to do that I would have to go back to college to get a degree in literature
>"Oh honey, we'll pay for it :)"
Well bros, I guess I got that off my chest.

>meant to spend the evening reading
>watched asmr videos instead because earlier today someone used an eraser on a chalkboard and it made me tingly, though I pretended it was really Nabokov's prose in Bend Sinister that gave me the tingles
>then after the asmr videos started listening to sad girl music Lana Del Rey is my guilty secret. I also get irrationally mad because she says Lolita is her favorite book, but I have a gut instinct she identified with Humbert's solipsized version of Dolly so Lana completely misunderstood the text
>out of beer as well
:(

One time I made eye contact with one of the girls working the checkout line at my local used book store. She had sour apple green hair, and basically dressed like an alt girl. I'm not even attracted to this type of girl, but when we made eye contact, my heart skipped a beat. Sadly when I checked out I did not get placed at her register. I was kind of hoping I could because it seemed like she looked at me because she found me attractive. After all she was in the process of checking someone out, so why would she make eye contact with me? I imagine if we checked out we would've had a short conversation about the books I was buying, and then she would write her number down on my receipt saying "we should grab a coffee some time". On the upside, the guy at the checkout complimented me on my purchases.
