Hear me out: the best classical and jazz radio is funded by patrons of the arts (contrast with NPR). Most good museums also rely far more on patrons of the arts than on taxes. If libraries relied mostly on patrons of the arts, they would be much more patrician. Much more. The reading clubs would have quality literature instead of the garbage they have now, and there would be no drag queen story hour. The computers and DVD’s (if available at all) would probably be more limited or require a paid membership, whereas the kino stuff would be free for members.

A lot of trad lads here seem to think Nietzsche is some polemic against Christianity per se, like he was fighting it. In truth he saw it strictly speaking as withering away and irrelevant, he was more concerned about its legacy, liberalism. For Nietzsche, a culture envisions God as their idea of perfection. To the Greeks this wasn’t a matter of good versus evil, but beings stronger and more beautiful and happier than them. The idea of such beings who treated them as flies did not offend them but redeemed existence, to live in their sunshine as Nietzsche put it. Judaism originally had a theology that was based on similar values but the Babylonian captivity made them very resentful of strength, beauty and happiness (see Psalm 137). This culminated in Christianity among Jews which had to newly envision God as poor, weak and miserable, because they had been oppressed so long to cope they forced themselves to change their ideal, no longer was it beautiful and happy and strong. Now Nietzsche saw post Christian liberal humans as essentially a continuation of this Jude’s-Christian valuation system which would come to vehemently hate beauty, success, strength and happiness and exalt being oppressed and feckless and failing, ugly and aggrieved as morally superior. Christians who continue to feel defensive against him just don’t understand he critiques Christianity as basically an historical phenomenon he saw presaging liberal humanism

This is a common fallacy among infidels. They think in premodern societies they wouldn't be weaklings. In fact they would just be dead weaklings

Anyone read Joseph de Maistre? When I read his work I realize a lot of the criticism levelled at Islam today was applicable to Catholicism back then (Bonald even supported the death penalty for blasphemy). It's kind of strange but as a Muslim I almost get more out of them than most Catholics would despite their very Trinitarianist theology. I'm not surprised Muslims signed up to fight with Franco because they saw atheist communists as the enemies of Allah.
