Acutely following the eyes and passing expressions of others, he identifies the very subjectivity which he lately overcame, and understands that others project their desires onto him, so that others do not see him as an individual, but merely as a potential actor for the various roles that remain unfilled in their stage play. Seeing this he recoils, no longer unconsciously wheeling through the endless cycles of time, unwittingly acting out the will of the world serpent devouring itself.
