I have contrarian personality disorder (it's not actually a real disorder) and I'm naturally cynical regardless and find it near impossible to do such events just for the fun of it. What you described is usually exactly my experience with such.
I've given up on any hope of making friends again long ago, and will probably never get a girlfriend simply because I'm too much of a distrustful loner. I always found it strange how easily normies can open up about their interests, hobbies, problems, and whatnot. I can't even tell people I like the same music as them without feeling like I'm being too open or risking unnecessary judgement.
