I used to love "the selfish gene" and thought it was interesting and compelling. Until I read David Stove's takedown Darwinian Fairytales, which points out that Dawkins is postulating a sort of demonology where genes are demons. Then you realize how transparently silly the whole thing is. Also the whole "meme" thing -people have ideas. Amazing revelation. Ideas can pass from person to person; I wonder how it's possible nobody thought of this before.

Most of the ideas aren't original, nor do they make much sense when you really think about it . To be fair they're mostly William Hamilton's ideas.
