I went in mostly blind, just knowing it was fucked up and hated it. Gave up halfway through, yet decided to continue to look into Sade because it still felt like I was missing something. After reading more about him and motivation behind the book I had much better grasp on Sade, and it was much easier to "get". Blasted through the rest of the book in an evening and was pretty pumped up by the ending, it was fucking great. Do your research, and then read, you won't be disappointed.

After 120 days, I read Story of the Eye, and fell in love with it and Bataille. It's much more accessible and has a nice explanation/essay at the end by Bataille himself that clears up some of the weirder stuff.
