Is STEM really good for the world?

The propagation of STEM could lead to learning certain philosophies about the origin of the world that are incorrect, as well as learning faulty forms of mathematics (if you believed the purer, earlier, forms of mathematics to be a better discipline than contemporary).

Obviously it's important to read around, and you should be reading scientific literature, but must we flaunt STEM like it's actually something that is always improving society, or could it tremendously hurt society as well?

I don't understand this thought process. The 'dictates of utility' you are obviously here referring to, have particularly the interest of the state in mind, which is what Bentham intended by writing Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation.
