Can someone please explain why Malazan is so hated here? Couple years ago it was hot shit all over /lit/ now it's like the mere mention of anything Erikson is sinful. The guy created what is possibly the largest cast of unique charachters/mythos in modern epic fantasy. The amount of depth he drew from his knowledge of world histories & cultures (being an anthropologist) & all the different philosophies & psychologies integrated into the series also proves as testament to his skill. I'm almost finished with the main series and have enjoyed it so far but I've seen a few complain it gets too overwhelming with the subplots and pointless characters (which I can understand after 8000+ pages of build-up)
