I think people have confused the ability of capital and the state to recuperate and pacify potentially destabilising ideas, with a genuine endorsement of those ideas on the behalf of state, corporations, et cetera.

In The System's Neatest Trick, Kaczynski is able to accurately diagnose the mechanisms by which capital and the state is able to disperse rebellious energies but he kind of misses the point on why this happens. Moreover, Kaczynski completely misses the nuances of political struggle when he equates tokenistic corporate-level diversity branding and whatnot with genuine struggles against systemic problems to do with race, gender, class, et cetera.

Furthermore, I would argue that reading Kaczynski's critique of "progressive values" (whatever you mean by this; Kaczynski seems to have a confused definition of it himself) as a mechanism to pacify rebellious energies as a denunciation of the politics that underlie the "progressive" values themselves, and not as a condemnation of a system which recuperates and pacificies the struggles associated with those values, is also missing the original point of Kaczynski in that essay.

To be honest, utilising Kaczynski in an argument about America's exporting of progressive values is kind of weird because Kaczynski would see any kind of media that falls short of literally calling for the destruction of technological society at a fundamental level as part of The System's Neatest Trick. He would definitely view the alt-right as a mechanism to disperse rebellious energies, albeit energies coming from the right.

Hey /lit/

Anybody here have experience of non-fiction book commissioning?

I would like to write the biography of Ted Kaczynski (and Michel Houellebecq), does anyone have any idea how to go about pitching this idea to agents / publishers?

I would self-fund travel expenses, do my own research, find individuals to interview and so on and I know I would make a great job but I'd only do all that if I knew someone would publish the work.
