You overlook the fact that the vast majority of trads are young and the vast majority of Vatican 2 supporters are old. Time is wielding a cruel sharp sword against the supporters of Vatican 2. They're all dying and we're not.

>If you're not born Catholic, barring some great unusual calling you think is from God, nobody should recommend you become one.

What fucking nonsense is this? What fucking trash is this? I guess it's different if you grow up in Spain or Italy, where there are so many atheists who LARP as practicing Catholics. But for me at least, I'm an American, and I can tell you that our practicing Catholics take things extremely seriously here. We have numerous converts from the lesser churches, like Episcopalians and the Southern Baptists, and they have a lot of fire in them. The Latin Mass is extremely strong in the United States, and it's growing very rapidly among our Catholic population. I'll note that doesn't seem to be the case with most of you Europeans, except for France, because France is beautiful and will always remain faithful and true to the Church, in the end.

But the point is that too many of you fuckers treat Catholicism as some lifestyle thing. We in America do not, because many of our new members are converts. We are totally devoted to the One True Church of Jesus Christ. We are prepared to burn down any earthly entity that does not conform to Our Lord. We love and hate political figures precisely as they conform to the timeless teachings of the Church. That's how we see things in the US Catholic Church.

Remember, OP: the Mass is not offered for your sake. The Novus Ordo has confused a lot of people on this, but it remains true for that, as well. The Mass is not said on behalf of the laity.

The Mass is said on behalf of Jesus Christ, God and Lord, in keeping with the old tradition of worship and sacrifice of God going back to the days of David's Israel. Priests say Mass privately all the time. It's not for you. It's not done on your behalf, or mine. It's done for God. It is the offering of the Eucharist as sacrifice to God, with God himself as that sacrifice in turn. But it is done entirely for God.

The Latin Mass really emphasizes this. So, basically, you don't need to know any of the responses. This is something I learned very quickly when I started going. Nothing YOU say or do is going to affect what goes on on the altar. It's not your doing that turns the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. It's the priest, offering the sacrifice.

So you don't actually NEED to say anything. It doesn't matter. Just sit in silence, stand and kneel when everyone else does, and ponder the great mystery.
