All other times that require archeology to understand or are forgotten. Islamic empires were centered on the med, and carried med culture all the way to China. Trade networks of Islamic empires brought citrus to the med, a key feature of modern med cuisine. They only hate Islam because the mid east Christian can't cope with the fact that, at no point in their entire history have they not been at the whims of a stronger culture and society, be it Islamic empires or eurocentric Christian empires. Islam is the key identifier for the majority of the Mediterranean, it is both their faith and the source of their nationalism. Good luck trying to convince a turk not to be proud of the ottomans, or a syrian not to be proud of the ummayads, or a morrocan not to be proud of al-Andalusia.
