No, but it can be interpreted as such. There are "dialogues" between Sancho and the Don that present alternating ideologies often masked with wit and irony, like when Sancho agrees with what Quixote is saying but thinks the exact opposite in his mind, but later on as with the wooden horse when being blindfolded, sensory perception propels him the realm of believing. The whole Cave of Montesinos can be said to be a descent and emergence from Purgatory, Sancho Panza's mayor business directly references King Solomon, the rights of the monarch vs the people, the moment when fantasy exceeds reality etc.

Don Quixote. An old man wants to become a knight in the age declining chivalry as a result of reading too many romances. In the process of his picaresque adventures across 17th century Spain he discovers that though he reads the world, the world also reads him. Despite its length what makes the book so fascinating is that it is also essentially a mirror for the reader, as we all have at some point wanted to become something unattainable, while Quixote has just gone out and done it. In a way it is an anime deconstruction for the ages.

Are there many classical and/or Biblical references in Don Quixote? I'm about to start with the Greeks and read the KJB but I really want to read this novel first. Will I miss much if I do?

I have been trying to go down the route of quality over quantity, and I am currently trying to pare down my list to something like 25 books to read and read again until I have understood them to their fullest for the rest of my life. I am still trying to establish which books these are, the true masterpieces in literature, without peer, all of them.

What would you consider essential literature for a list like this? Remember, I want absolute superiority, not variety. Many books from one time period or culture are fine.

Don Fucking Quixote

And the Bible. I'm one of the more atheistic people on this board, but nothing is as grandiose as the Bible, plus you'd like both The Divine Comedy and PL better if you know what they're referencing

E-readers need not apply, nor audiobook listeners

Besides, large books are usually meme books on here, and now modern day genre literature stuff has the audacity to not only have a 600+ page book but also have like 11 sequels for it

Unless you're talking about DQ though, I think /fit/ would like it
