Philosophy PhD here. Did my dissertation on Spinoza. In undergrad I double majored in lit/phil.

Love is the only reason to study literature/philosophy. Other activities better fill the roles you've laid out.

Also, utilitarianism is stupid and morals aren't real read spinoza
