how can i explain the will to my friend? he just doesnt get it no matter how much i explain, he just keeps saying how "everything has a reason, the will must also, therefore", ive explained to him how the subject and object form the outside world of representation and how the will is that which is not representation but an inner feeling (so to speak), ive also explained how the intellect is secondary (it can get tired, the will cant, it can be made think something the will wants, etc.) but he thinks will is secondary and wishes come after intellect, i also showed him how everything makes perfect sense if we look at the world as driven by a blind irrational will, but he still doesn't get it, what is a way i can explain it so he can understand?

Pre-modern men, and even in many conservative cultures today, affection between men isn't considered sexual or romantic. Anyone else like Magee's work on him? I've read and reread The Cambridge Companion as well as The Philosophy of Schopenhauer and I thought they were good, fair warning they are biased in favor of him.

Schopenhaur thought the Will was a never yielding striving to live. Niezsche built on this and defined it as the 'Will to Power' and that everybody embodies it in some way. How does the lonely, shut-in manchild of inaction have the Will to Power? Is it unfair to assume Nietzsche would ever come across such weird people? Even in Notes From Underground the Underground man is active as in he leaves the house and gets his power from being a petty fucker. Is it time to redefine 'The Will to Power' to simply 'The Will to pleasure'? or is it possible for the Will to be surpressed and beaten down to the point it no longer is active within a person?

Even fiction is expected to respect certain fundamental truths, human suffering being one such thing. Tragedy is truthful. Moreover it can work as an intermediate step towards other narrative goals, if tragedy for-tragedy's-sake isn't your bang.
