For political philosophy:
Don't fall for meme shit. Do not ask people for recommendations on 4chan or the internet in general, because you'll only get meme shit. Stick to the canon initially, that means what political philosophers have engaged and continue to engage with—the major thinkers. If you want to engage with specific ideologies like Fascism or Marxism or Anarchism or Libertarianism or Liberalism or whatever, then seek out the major texts by their most prominent thinkers instead of modern memeshit (eg, if you want to learn about Fascism read Gentile, not some contemporary literal-who e-celeb). Avoid Twitter fags and grifters hocking their juvenile scrawling. Ignore recommendations from anyone who is a clear ideologue—they are more interested in converting you than recommending anything in good faith. Ignore anyone who uses 'leftism' 'leftist' 'rightist' 'trad' 'right-wing' 'left-wing' or any other stupid political compass term. Approach texts as honestly as possible, regardless of yours or their political position. Consider the historical context of thinkers. Cambridge's history of political thought editions are the gold standard in almost all cases. Realize that being interested in politics academically is suffering.
In a word: Don't fall for meme shit.
