I realize Walt Whitman did something interesting, byutwhy did no meter or rhyme or aliteration become the model of English poetry as opposed to exception? Line breaks now are especially cringe because they were only invented to mark meter, now they are just used to remind the reader, "this is poetry in case you were wondering"
