My question is whether these Dadaist photographers hold the process of photography secondary or primary to their work. Why aren't these photographs paintings? Why are these models models for photographers rather than painters? Many painters brought the virgin mary into view, and the difference between these paintings is style and form. I think the shortcomings of photography is tied to the relationship between form and content. The act of painting is primary to a painting and the subject or content is secondary. Apply this reasoning to photography and things become muddled. This is where art grows into its own, where the form of a thing takes center stage. I don't see this in photography, at least not yet. And I may be wrong, and I hope I am.
