Trying to read Henry James is like drinking a bottle of NyQuil and trying to stay awake. Christ, what a monotonous, drab author. Who decided this homo should be read, much less remembered, at all?

Gay being not, perhaps, le mot juste, as it were, for his dear distinguished presence, but posting this, his little picture, nonetheless, all too indefeasibly.

Now that's what I call historical fiction /lit/!

Perhaps we should discuss this work in light of Henry James's notorious comment, in a letter to Sarah Orne Jewett, that the historical fiction is "condemned to a fatal cheapness".
