Novels that deal with suicide, feature characters who commit suicide, etc. Try to post something people might by unfamiliar with.

Books for reading when you have been depressed for nearly a decade, with the latter half of it noted for nearly daily suicidal ideation?

Am I a psychopath brehs? Just finished reading book related and realised that at the age of 28 I have never experienced unrequited love, but not only that I cannot even conceptualise it. I once fell in love with a girl at 21, and I was deeply affected by her rejection, but even at the time I always knew that I had a mental laundry list of qualities I admired and disliked and her rejection only bothered me for a few days, even though I had spent the better part of a year believing I had loved her, I knew that whatever desirable qualities she had I could find elsewhere and internalised it rather quickly. Reflecting back I now realise I think of everyone this way, in terms of their positive and negative traits. The loss that most deeply affected me for example was my grandfather because I saw him as possessing unique qualities, having fought in WW2 and become an incredible carpenter. The knowledge that so few people have those traits saddens me immensely. But I see most of my peers as effectively interchangeable. Is this because I am more philosophically pragmatic, or is it a sign of some deficiency in my limbic system? Anyone else have unrequited love and anyone else incapable of comprehending it?

I'm in the exact situation as Werther and I've been suffering really really terribly for a few months. But then again I see my whole situation as idiotic. But I'm really suffering.

Is it really worth learning a language just to read and "appreciate" a piece of literature in its native language? For a lot of languages it will take at least 10 years to really pick up all the intricacies and nuances of a language, and you need to live in a country where that language is spoken to pick up colloquialisms and unique phrases. Without a true mastery of a language, you are basically just translating it back into your native tongue in your mind while you read. And are the rewards enough to justify all the effort?
