It's excellent and I found it quite scary too

After PKD finished writing Three Stigmata and he received the manuscript back from the editor for correcting mistakes etc, he wasn't able to read the thing because he found it terrifying, in fact as I understand it he never could bring himself to read Three Stigmata - at least that's what he said in an interview.

It terrified him so much because, according to PKD (your interpretation might differ) the character of Palmer Eldritch was the personification of absolute evil.
