I want to read The Canterbury Tales. Should I read the original Middle English text or a translation? Would I be able to understand the original?

What translation should I read for The Canterbury Tales? I looked at the wiki and couldn't find anything on it. Also does anyone know a good source to learn Middle English so I can read the poems in the way Chaucer wrote them?

Do you still consider somebody who read English translations of any author in the Western canon that didn't write in English 'well-read' or 'patrician'?

If I'm willing to suspend the belief that Jesus Christ did exist as the gospels said he did, will reading theology such as Augustine and Aquinas provide me with ideas that still stand strong in the 21st century and show me the beauty and perfection of God?

Is basically everyone believing in subjectivity a dangerous thing for art?

Since I don't know any other languages well enough to read their decent literature, I've decided to at least explore the classics of my native tongue. I'd like to read the Canterbury Tales in the original middle English, but I'm not sure where to start learning the correct grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary to do so confidently. Any recommendations?
