Just finished Dune. I liked it. Now, the question is do I go back to Dark Tower V (which I put down halfway because it was unbearable) and complete the series, or start a new series (Song of Ice and Fire)?

I also attribute it to my love of reading and love of Science Fiction, but it always comes back to where it began with Dune.

I've decided to start Dune today... what should I expect? and... after I finish it... should I bother with the sequels? ...sometimes sequels are not so good

Dune, Frank Herbert

You can safely skip the sequels, but Dune is awesome and deserves its place high on everyone's list. Deserts & oil-and-Islam symbolism everywhere keeps it relevant, plus filled with deep politics and awesome characters.

I was thinking about reading Dune. Should I? How about the sequels?

DUNE THREAD

Finished reading Dune some months ago. Really enjoyed. Now about to finish Dune Messiah.. pretty meh. Not overly enjoying it so far. Are the rest of the books like this? Should I even continue with the series?

Dammit Frank, I just noticed this:

Kwisatz Haderach / Kefitzat Haderech

Kefitzat Haderech... means, verbatim, "jumping of the path/road/way", a Hebrew equivalent of the English expression "short cut"....In Torah study and Jewish folklore, kefitzat haderech is the ability to jump instantaneously from one place to another or travel with unnatural speed. The term is originally found in Midrashim to explain anomalies of travel in the Hebrew Bible

Can you admit, to yourself and to others, that some of your favorite books are shittily written?

also, when does this become enjoyable to read? I got through the first couple chapters and was like "blegh". Does it change it's pace? Get better? I understand it's supposed to be some amazing book, but it's sure got a slow start.

Imagine John Williams composing the score to a new Dune movie. That shit would be fucking epiccccccccccc.

Don't mind me.

so /lit/, I need a good book that is similar to Dune. Just watched Avatar and couldn't help but think that they Fremen were about 100% cooler than anything in that movie.
