If majoring in English or Philosophy is a meme then what the fuck do you suppose to major in? Picrelated majored in English and Philosophy and made it fine. I don't want to be a bugman and I don't really see the point in me picking a field I wont enjoy because I know what my true passion is, albeit I also don't want to be working customer service after getting my major. Whats graduate school like for Creative writing and English majors? Is it likely you'll get some connections with publishers?

Were all living ironically at this point, scrolling through this site unconsciously to stay stimulated, informed,to interact with people anonymously about a hobby we enjoy. To waste our time questioning the existant of the world whilst our current world is being broken into pieces with terrorist attacks, huge wars between races, radical nationalism in Europe, and maintaining our rights in the U.S. It's falling apart in front our very eyes. But, with no power and nothing to do and a million and one ways to entertain ourselves, why bother? Thats pretty much what DFW predicted, we would be slaves to all this constant simulation and ultimately be living "ironically" aware but unaware making fun of ourselves almost.

I have no doubt if Wallace was born around 1990-2000s he would be on /lit/ shit posting and I can imagine him being one of the blog frog posters when his sadness got to him. He said it himself, he wouldn't see the necessity in going out or doing much if we continue to evolve and expand on our unlimited sources of entertainment. Say what you want about this guy but he was pretty much right. He himself explained he had to throw out his T.V. because he wouldn't be able to get shit done if he kept it. Now look at us, everyone needs a phone regardless if you abstain from using it, almost everyone needs a computer nowadays otherwise how the fuck will you get school work done that is of course, online. Schools are getting rid of books and using laptops now anyway. Implementing e-books, implementing school books online, turning in assignments online, doing test online; I mean its not a bad thing just exactly what he thought would happen.

I mean look at this interview with DFW, Franzen and Leyner:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3qjCvkQWvs

They talk about how the information era is over taking and making kids disinterested in reading and how its becoming more and more difficult to write books towards this audience or any sorts of audiences at all. They talk about how THEN reading is becoming more and more exclusively rare and although its a rare hobby is becoming difficult to keep up. I mean this is 1996 when their talking about this
>1996
here we are 23 years later and oh boy, were in a worser state than they could have ever predicted. I'm not saying books will cease to be of public interest I mean were still reading and this community is still active even with the panicing of the upcoming information era then, so I think will be fine were just in a translation to introducing technology to kids and making it more viable, E-books are the future but vintage physical copys will still be around. Just like how taking test on paper vs on a computer screen is still a worthy debate around.

Anyways I wasted all my time writing a run on paragraph of sorts to a random anonymous stranger on the internet, although I have really important deadlines to meet tomorrow, and I did this all unironically, but actuality it was ironically

read most of moldbugs book but patchwork is his best imo

and I say if you read alot of the links above and just scroll through the old accelerationist/Nrx megathreads regardless of understanding the substance you'll be able to piece together alot of shit in your reading of FN, read old land for more horror stuff, read #accelerate if you want to grasp the basics good despite it being outdated and the wikipedia page for accelerationism is pretty good although its short.

I won't post my blog here among the shit I linked above to not look like a psued and obvious reasons

Is it just me or was he a way more accomplished Kafka?

His stories creeped me out/fucked me up more than Kafka, in that creeping human condition kind of way

Also i really wish he was still with us

Hello, /lit/. I've watched some interviews with David Foster Wallace on YouTube. In all of these interviews he asks, at least once, 'a lot of this [interview] is going to be cut out, right?' Why would David Foster Wallace ask such a question? Please explain so I can have greater insight into this author.

Is /lit/'s hatred of David Foster Wallace like /tv/'s hatred of Tarantino, in that he's actually a talentless hack who normies think is cool and talented; or is it like /mu/'s hatred of The Beatles, in that they're incredibly talented and influential people but the board is full of edgy contrarians?

You can only really learn how to use people by practicing, it really is like any other skill. You've read enough about it you should now try to use it. It's like any other skill, you can read about it for ages but if you don't do you stay shit. It all really comes down to being able to read people well and adjust accordingly.
