ITT: Actually Good Genre Fiction Writer.

I find the concept of Nixon and his administration being the continuation of Roman Empire really interesting. I mean, I don't even mind Nixon or Roman Empire that much, but it's still an interesting concept. I guess years of drug abuse can produce interesting things.

Valis or Ubik? Cause I've read the beginnings of both books and Valis seems better. But I might be wrong overall.

He's like the Stephen King of sci-fi, except King's books are twice as long and his endings are not ambiguous; they're just bad.

So you're telling me this guy was allowed to have a massive successful career in his lifetime and get multiple movie deals because he was a glorified ideas man? He did drugs in a time when it was a hip and safe thing to do and then spewed a bunch of nonsense in public and got famous for it?

I've read several books of his now and they have all been underwhelming. I'm kind of disappointed. You're telling me that if I had been born ~20 years earlier I would have a successful writing career based purely off my relatively off the wall ideas alone? No actual craft or talent required?
