Why is this book considered a "must read" to be taken seriously in literary circles?

>Meaning is hammered in with dialogue instead of being a natural part of the story
>Prose is nothing special
>Plot is nothing special
>Characters aren't deep or memorable

>idea is good, but badly explored
>writing style is awful
>character development is non-existent
>plot is easy to guess
>last third of the book feels rushed
>ending is bad

Seriously, what is great about this, what have I missed? If I would have to rate it, I can't even feel like it deserves 3/5.
