give me a summary

just walked in after voting and this cheesy auction tv show was on, but the thing that was up for auction caught my eye.

the dealer offered the couple £1,000 ($1,650) and they took it to auction instead of got $1,400 ($2,300)

the book was by Sir George Chetwode and from what little i heard of the convseration it was a diary he wrote whilst watching a battle from a hill during the Crimean War.

so the couple found it in an attic, it was apparently of national significance, so i was wondering if anything similar had happened to any /lit/erati, if they'd found a book which turned out to be rare or worth something good etc.
