I started with pic related last year and just wrapped up Plato. It's been life changing honestly. Super stoked to dig into Aristotle next. My favorite book so far though has been Peloponnesian War by Thucycides. So many great speeches and the conflict itself is like a template for current geopolitical events.

Read some (most) of these and you'll be on your way.

Next month, I'll plan to develop a reading habit, preferably following a set. Which set I should follow? Have you tried your hand in any of these?
>Harvard Classics
>Loeb
>Great Books of the Western World
>The Delphian Course
>Sacred Books of the East
>St. John's Great Books (picrel)
>just cross titles off of Bloom's list as I read?

My mind says 'Harvard Classics' but I think translations might be not as good as the newer ones?
LOEB is thematic, which is good, and the Delphian Course (because it's quite short compared to others)

Or just recc any other lists -preferably thematic.

Check Bloom's list. Although he later admitted that he included it because of publisher's request, it's a solid starter.

Alternatively you can go with PICREL as well.

Both of these are way better than any list /lit/ would give you.

Is this even real?
How the hell is someone supposed to read all these books AND absorb their meanings?
At other unis a single book like these is studied for a semester or entire year.
I think this college is larping hard and using the trending speed reading approach where quantity and superficial reading rule.

has anyone read through the "great books of the western world" on purpose or been enrolled in a university that uses it as its curriculum? is it a worthwhile undertaking?
