What is with the shit-storm of a people in Master and Margarita? Maybe it's because I couldn't keep anyone besides The Master, Margarita, The devil's gang, Homeless, and Berlioz straight. Probably because the had a short, memorable name. It's like Fredmavich Donfdkmavich pushed Donmichvinkin Kiltiliavich down the stairs while Gretchatonavich Grishmanivondrakav and Ivan Komendropoff dance the babushka.

I'll put the trip on because this is something I'll greatly defend.

If you ALWAYS put cream/sugar/etc into your tea or coffee (with certain "required" exceptions; you require steamed milk for latte, cappuccino requires milk, etc.), then you don't actually like the taste of coffee/tea. You may like the "flavor essence" diluted coffee/tea, but you don't actually like the coffee/tea.

If you don't enjoy whisky/whiskey/rum/tequila/and others that fall into that realm, (mostly; with the exception of a few drops to a small amount of water to "open") neat and up, then you don't actually like the taste of that alcohol. (Note, this doesn't have to include vodka. It also doesn't include mixer shit like Kaluha and such)

There, of course, is nothing really "wrong" with liking your coffee, tea, or alcohol diluted. Just don't claim you like Colombian coffee or black tea and then ask where the cream and sugar is. Also, don't claim you love whiskey when you actually like whiskey sours and mint juleps.

Also, the case can be made that if you always dilute your coffee/tea/alcohol, you shouldn't bother buying high-end or expensive stuff. Though this case is swiss cheese; though it has a lot of substance, it's got many holes. It's your money you can do what you want, it brings my sugary mixed drink to new heights, etc. That being said, it's still serious food for thought.

When I made the picture, I made it based off what I always saw people and myself telling new readers to read. I had made it so it would make it easy for myself to reply to the very often request for "I want to start reading, where do I start?" that was going on at the start of the year. It's not officially /lit/'s put together list, it's exclusively just me and what I saw. It would be impossible for /lit/ to put a list like this together and this thread and the threads like this in the past are proof. Every thread goes like this "Why not W and X, I didn't like Y. Why is Y there..." and someone else will say "Y should be there! V and Z is missing though! X? Why would you add X?! X was shit." "WHERES U!" and so on and so forth.

This wasn't a "Just started reading? Here read some 18th century high class social commentary and Schopenhauer as your gateway books!" list. It was made to cater to the group of people who are interested in reading, needed something more modernly attention grabbing then a Shakespearean drama right then, likely didn't read the high school assigned things or weren't assigned it, and had a lot of things of meaning and context that slapped you in the face but then had plenty of underlying meaning and themes.

For the people who say "I didn't like it, why is it there!!" Tough shit, I don't like The Catcher in the Rye, I don't like Invisible Man, didn't really like 1984, and really don't like American Psycho. Though they are all there and I put them on the list.
