JP has an interesting lecture that touches on this subject. Basically he says that to exists you must have limitations, and limitations are ultimately the cause of all suffering (fairly Buddhist concept, but many religions and philosophies have picked up on this). If we had no limitations we wouldn't "exist" in some sense. At some point you might have to take it on good faith that to be is better than to not be, but if you are currently suffering this is a hard pill to swallow, hence suicide statistics.
