What does Lit/ think of The First Law trilogy?

How dark/depressing is this? I want to gift it for my sister who likes fantasy (fan of Brandon Sanderson). She's expressed interest in it before, but she's also a little babby when it comes to dark stuff.

At no point did anyone outside of Reddit-types consider Rothfuss a serious contender for the title of "greatest" anything. I read his first book during a time when I was a huge fantasy reader and it was embarrassing self-insert wish fulfillment even by the standards of the genre. Pic related came out around the same time and took a huge shit all over Rothfuss and anyone else in the genre, for that matter.

More enjoyable than I expected. Actually around GRRM tier or slightly below

How do people feel about this trilogy? I finished book 1 and not sure if I want to continue

Currently reading this. In your opinion, how does this rank against similar series? Asoiaf, mistborn, kingkiller, etc

About 75 pages into it. Does it get better than Glokta torturing people? I can read that, but it does get a bit dull.

I never thought I'd like ASOIAF but here we are.

This is a good trilogy and no amount of snobbery from /lit/ will change this fact.
