I finally gave in and started reading The Wheel of Time. Right now in the middle of book 3.
It's weird to read. The books are hard to put down, but I'm not really sure I like them? I fucking hate most if not all characters, but the things happening and the general conflicts are nice.Tension is done really well. I don't mind the usual complaints people have about the series, like the first books are just Tolkien ripoffs or that the descriptions are too long and repetitive (I don't like it, but I don't hate it).
Everywhere I look, people praise the character work, and though I'll admit you could call it complex, I can't really root for over half of them. Surprisingly, I like Rand the most so far, and Perrin. Egwene and Morraine piss me the fuck off. Lan is cool.
A small part of me wants to drop the series, but i also feel like I can learn a lot reading it.
