Are there any working, contemporary journalists in the world as batshit insane, controversial, and interesting to read as was Hunter Thompson?

(poli-pundits don't count...O'Reilly, Olbermann, et al hardly count as journalists in any respect)

I'm a third of the way into Hunter Thompson's "The Great Shark Hunt". What a brutal, twisted journalist he was.

Are any contemporary journalists doing what he did, in terms of unconventional field reporting?
