The world building, action and couple characters were really good and interesting.

That's the mc on the cover.
The only two male characters in the opening seemed like jokes. One was a wimpy coward momma's boy who'd running away set off the plot. The other is a crochety geezer. He was trying to stop Gideon from leaving, so she basically intimidates and stares him down calling his bluff until he just leaves.
The other one, not met only mentioned is the necrolord emperor who is the patriarchy that needs to be smashed. But Imigjt be reading into some of this a bit too much. Like there are ugly and awful female characters too.

But again, the world building fights and necromancy were all well thought out and pretty engaging.
