Although I do feel like combat has the possibility to be a transcendent experience, the time for such combat has been behind us for hundreds of years. There's nothing edifying about getting blown up by a mortar shot, or being mowed down by machine guns. Maybe back in Ancient Greece there was some nobility in warfare, but there's certainly nothing left of that in the age of mechanized mass warfare. Technology cucks the life out of everything.

Recently read "The Forest Passage" and "Eumeswil" by Jünger. Holy shit, few books are more actual than these two.

>“None of us can know today if tomorrow morning we will not be counted as part of a group considered outside the law. In that moment the civilized veneer of life changes, as the state props of well-being disappear and are transformed into omens of destruction. The luxury liner becomes a battleship, or the black jolly roger and the red executioner’s flag are hoisted on it.”

>“The anarch knows the rules. He has studied them as a historian and goes along with them as a contemporary. Wherever possible, he plays his own game within their framework; this makes the fewest waves.”

>“The populace consists of individuals and free men, while the state is made up of numbers. When the state dominates, killing becomes abstract. Servitude began with the shepherds; in the river valleys it attained perfection with canals and dikes. Its model was the slavery in mines and mills. Since then, the ruses for concealing chains have been refined.”

>“I consider it poor historical form to make fun of ancestral mistakes without respecting the eros that was linked to them. We are no less in bondage to the Zeitgeist; folly is handed down, we merely don a new cap.”

What else should one read to know how to not get bogged down in the Zeitgeist and to learn how to behave in a politically unstable mass surveillance state?

How much Nietzsche/Schopenhauer/Plato/Stirner/Spengler do I need to understand Der Arbeiter and Der Waldgang, or his later works in general? Some anons told me that his later works (like Eumeswil) get very philosophical.

Jünger was a ruthless young warrior — and his themes of a heroic death — the ultimate self-sacrifice is fascinating even to this day. He celebrates the heroic ideal of soldiers, and talks of how the slaughter has not been in vain. It's in stark contrast to pacific interpreters of war. Yet he himself retracts from all of it later in life, saying it was all a mistake.

>"During the 1984 Franco–German ceremony held at Verdun, the setting for the worst slaughter of the war, he sought to make amends for his youthful bellicosity, saying that the ''ideology of war'' pervading Germany before and after that conflict was ''a calamitous mistake"

Any thoughts on this ?

What is the point of reading the old "nationalistic" and warmongering version of Storm of Steel when Jünger himself got rid of it. Its like reading something he didn't fully mean - being young and idealistic. And later on in his book "Peace" (1948) he agreus for a united Europe. His nationalistic and romantic feelings surrounding war are gone - he now wants peace and a united europe! Any thoughts ?

Not fascist in any real sense minus some wignats need to put his own worldview into Storm of Steel and other works. As far as right wing goes he's my personal choice.

Hundreds of them, all read and own the same books, look the same and most of them are over 30 which is just sad. In addition they all have a collection of Penguin classics with unbroken spines. The men on there are almost without exception flamboyant gays reading exactly the same stuff. An interesting rule of thumb is the less attractive the female the more intellectual her reading, which makes sense but it's just very obvious.
