>Do I have to read Dying Earth first before I start reading Lyonesse?
No. They are both their own stand alone series that most likely take place in the same universe. I would recommend reading Lyonesse first but it doesn't really matter.

I remember my first exposure to this sort of perspective shifting, multiply characters thing. In fact each chapter was written by different authors...

I think OP would like it too, but I can't recall the title or authors.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?
There's a Venetian like city as big as New York, but in an 18th century technological setting (Baths are a big deal to the regular poor folk. It was a series with lots of characters (Too many I guess, I lost interest and put them down before finishing) but the story starts with a teenage girl boat/gondola driver, who was featured on the cover.

..."Moon" something?
