My little cousin ended up telling her parents about the clandestine Sappho-centered poetry circle I formed which consisted of myself and five other girls aged 11-14, my cousin being the eldest of them.

My goal was to cultivate an intense level of aesthetic sensibility in these girls so they would become the next movement in poetry like the Imagists or French Symbolists. I figured the best way to do this was to teach them, while at that most impressionable and imperative age, Sapphic-themed verse and form as proper vehicle for the erotic ἔκστασις that was only now beginning to fill their lives. I picked Sappho since I figured appealing to the Lesbian impulses that are latent in all young girls would be a good resource they could draw from for their poetry.

I saw myself as a sort of Robbin Williams figure from Dead Poets Society, or being a Calvalcanti to this barely-pubescent troupe of nymphic Dante-s. I encouraged them to experience poetry as a lived, Heideggerian event and revolt against the anodyne mass-culture that their peers indulged. I had a cirriculum of mainly Sappho but that also involved random acts of transgression, both literary and social, and an added esoteric level of actual occult stuff, mainly just elementary sigil magik and breathing exercises, to add an air of legitimate mystery and better inculcate them with a mentality that was wholly transcendent and alienated from modernity while still remaining operative within it. A lot of these girls were from christian backgrounds so a lot of this seemed keenly illicit.

My aunt and uncle have now blocked me from contacting my cousin and want me to turn over the names of the other girls so they can contact their parents and coordinate legal action against me before I "ruin any more lives". I've pretty much accepted that there's no chance I can convince them my intentions were innocent, and I'm too sick with fear at this point to think straight. Ironically, out of our little group, I might be the one who ends up following closest in Sappho's footsteps by taking a similar way out.

I think they've got nothing on Sappho.
