I finished reading Blood Meridian and I love how McCarthy spells the words exactly how it sounds whether or not formally correct
Is there any younger contemporary writers who writes like that?

Why doesn't this faggot use quotation marks when characters speak? It's so fucking annoying to read.

This is pretty much the only good cover of Blood Meridian imo. I've got this crummy cover, looks like a fucking romance novel you'd see at the grocery store

>reading Blood Meridian
>wonder what's up with those little chapter headings that tell you what's going to happen in the coming chapter
>look it up, apparently they're called "synoptic chapter headings" and McCarthy uses them because both Moby Dick and Paradise Lost use them
>okay
>except wait a minute, I've read Moby Dick and Paradise Lost and neither had these (yeah Paradise Lost had the arguments but that's not the same thing)
>google "synoptic chapter headings"
>only results that come up are people asking about Blood Meridian and being given that as an answer with the Moby Dick/Paradise Lost reasoning
What the fuck? Is this just some bullshit people made up and continue to spout because none of them can be bothered to fact check what they've been told? And furthermore, what are those chapter headings called?

I read this book and I didn't like it. I thought the writing was kinda fruity and gay but nice but was morally revolted by the content. How do you like a book if you hate what it was saying. I expected a big moral gotcha at the end, but it just ended. I dont get why anyone would like this. Something like Taxi Driver is good because you realize he was your friend all along but this was just gay. I tried to read The Road next but I dont like long Sci-Fi which is gay so I put it down. I think fiction is just for fags, Im not gonna get rich or laid from reading some faggot talk about dragons or some shit.

Esl here. It's pretty frustrating that I have to check a dictionary every few pages because of some obscure geological term. Every time he describes a landscape is literal hell.

Jesus fucking Christ I'm halfway through this novel and I'm starting to hate the prose. It's so annoying how he tries so damn hard to make every single sentence sound like some overly poetic and biblical philosophy. It's like he's constantly trying to rub it in your face that he's from the south and likes violence.
>"The kid did this and the judge said that and he eyed him and earth was full of rocks and man himself too was rock hard for he is merely animal and the sky was red like blood DOOD BLOOD LMAO NIGGERS"
To compare this pretentious mess to William Faulkner is such an insult to the guy. Faulkner too had poetic and long sentences here and there and he also was inspired by the bible but the difference is that he knows when and how to make use of it unlike McCarthy. I have no idea why this is getting shilled on here 24/7.

>Aint that the drizzlin shits, he said.
>The man was juggling and calling back over his shoulder to the women and the dogs were dancing and the women were turning to in preperation of something when Glanton spoke to the man.

What are /lit/‘s thoughts on Cormac McCarthy?

I’m like 100 pages into picrel and while the prose and lack of punctuation took a little to get the swing of (especially the constant naming of random/obscure mechanisms of stagecoaches and shit), I’m really liking it so far. There’s a lot of beauty beneath its bleakness.

Reminds me of Bret Easton Ellis stuff, who I’ve read much more of.

Is the rest of his stuff as good?

That was a week ago and I haven’t heard from her. Did I fuck up?
