What are some books you hate with all your heart?

I despised this book. It's repulsive. Full of unnecessary descriptions, one-dimensional characters (at least Aomame was semi-interesting) and it went nowhere most of the time. It has very little substance despite being more than 1000 pages.

So I've been reading books on the train to work all year so far. On a whim, I picked up Kafka on the Shore, positively loved it, although the ending was less than stellar.

I immediately picked up Wind Up Bird Chronicle, liked that even better, although the last 1/3 of the book, until the very last chapters was such a cluster of unnecessary additional characters and links, in my opinion. Still really enjoyed it.

Then I read 1Q84. I just finished today. I can hardly fathom how empty it felt. Extreme, constant repetition, illogical character choices, This is CAT TOWN that is CAT TOWN everywhere is CAT TOWN. Killed best character for literally literally literally no reason. Then provided zero closure on any plot point, which I understand is intentional, but it is not a good feeling after reading 1200 pages.

I'm not sure how /lit/ considers Murakami on the meme scale, but boy howdy did this one make me feel absolutely nothing, except for Ushikawa. Any differing opinions? Opinions on which, if any, of his books to read next? Regardless of opinion, I'm up to read at least two more, if not everything he's got, depending on how those go.

Bought it on a whim because I needed something to occupy my time and have something to read. Not that great and drawn out.

Ok /lit/, I just finished Murakami's "opus" and to be honest it was full of puss ( if the author can use terrible puns, why can't I?). I didn't like the characters at all, maybe with the exception of the director's secretary, which is the only character that appears in this whole book whose characteristics and appearance aren't shoved down your throat every second page. ( even this is a bit doubful, as her clothing is also too heavily commented on.)
The sex scenes are just to bland and feel like coffee stains on the pages, there to add flavour but just get in the way. Muh taboo and muh chrayzee sexuality is so overplayed it's funny.
The mystical and fantastical world of 1Q84 is so badly fleshed out, especially the two moons bit, I mean come on why didn't she ask anyone about it for so long?
I have all the patience in the world but please, the book is as bloated with useless detail as an overly zealous skyrim mod.
Could one of you explain what was good in this book, because all the positive reviews it's been getting are making me feel stupid for not understanding a "deep plot", when for me the plot was kinda like a bellybutton, shallow and it stinks most of the time.

It's my only Murakami so far. I really like the way it felt like a hardboiled crime mystery with touches of sci-fi, and how how he kept the story superior to the side-ramblings (unlike many of ther post-modern authors). What should I read next by him that is similar to this?
